Throughout my career, the driving force behind my craft has been to focus on the calming power of molding cool earth. I find the process of working on the potter wheel especially soothing. As a visually impaired artist, it has been vital to pursue a craft that not only has longevity as my condition worsens but also allows a respite from the visual strains I’m regularly under. While working with clay I can ease into the tactile senses my fingertips show me. This physical and mental ease from being released from visual tension allows me to create forms that are both visually beautiful and lovely to hold. I take care in prioritizing the weight of my forms, as well as the strength of their rims to ensure durability. I make robust yet simple silhouettes with strong thick rims, ample handles, and comfortable curves that sit balanced in the palm. My work aims to find a comfortable grip and durable construction, balanced with a simplistic elegance. I have always been deeply inspired by early American pottery, particularly Southern pottery from the late 1800s to the early 1900s. I strive to make forms people can bond with and pass down through generations similar to the vintage pottery I have been inspired by in the Southeast.
