I aim to create works of functional art that bring beauty and story into every part of our lives. As a lifelong painter, I was drawn to clay because of its capacity to merge the functional with the beautiful. Inspired by Hungarian folk art, early American quilting and 1960s kitchen wares. I see the value in taking the time and effort to adorn and decorate the most mundane aspects of our home. In doing so, I slow down and connect to the lineage of artists and craftsmen who came before me, who understood that function and beauty should coexist. I use florals, patterns, and bright colors to bring warmth and nostalgia into the home. My hope is that each piece will be passed down through generations, and in doing so it will take on a new story of its own. By collaborating with my partner I am able to focus on the aspect of clay I enjoy most, surface decoration. Each piece is hand painted with underglaze while leather hard, carved to bring dimension, bisqued, and finally glazed. My process is time consuming, but the vibrancy, depth, and texture it yields is worth the wait.
